Flip clocks are easy to find online, but they vary a lot in quality. If you're buying one in Canada, here is what's worth checking before you order.
1. Automatic or manual
Some "flip clocks" are really desk calendars or manual number blocks you turn yourself. An automatic flip clock has a motor that turns the digits on its own every minute. If you want a working clock rather than a decoration, make sure the listing says automatic.
2. Metal or plastic
Many cheaper flip clocks have plastic housings. They work, but they look and feel lighter. A metal flip clock has more weight, holds up better over time and looks closer to a design object than a gadget.
3. How it's powered
- Wall plug only: reliable, but you always have a cord showing.
- AA batteries: no cord, but you'll be replacing batteries.
- Rechargeable (USB-C): keep it plugged in or charge it and go cord-free. This is the most flexible option.
4. Noise
Every mechanical flip clock makes some sound when a flap drops, usually one short click per minute. That's normal. If it's going right beside your bed and you're a very light sleeper, keep that in mind.
5. Alarm or no alarm
Check the listing carefully. Many flip clocks have no alarm, and some sellers aren't clear about it. Decide whether you need one before buying.
6. Size and finish
Flip clocks are usually small enough for a desk or nightstand, but check the dimensions against your space. For finish, silver and black suit most minimalist setups, white and light gray work in bright Scandinavian-style rooms, and a colour like orange makes the clock the focal point of a shelf.

Many listings show US prices, so the final cost after exchange, shipping and duties can be higher than it looks. Look for prices in Canadian dollars and clear shipping times to Canada before you check out.
